Then, whenever you want to navigate a UI that doesn't support controllers such as GOG Galaxy, you can use your controller to move the mouse and click to install and play games. Create a button toggle so you can switch between KODI mode and desktop mode. My advice is to set up a comfortable desktop config for your controllers in Steam. It's more finnicky to move the mouse and type that way, but it's doable. Though before Steam Controllers existed I used Xbox controllers with Controller Companion. The touchpad and gyro are fantastic mouse replacements. It can boot my computer from sleep/hibernate and even navigate the BIOS. I use a Steam Controller and always have Steam running, that's it. I like being able to change deep level things on my computer on a whim while on the couch. It's possible, but feels too limiting for my use case. If I'm in bed I just hold my PlayStation button, move the mouse with the right stick, and click the play button with R2.Įdit** I used to use big picture mode back in the day but I prefer my setup now.Īlthough I've set up KODI, I've given up on the idea to only use controller-friendly UIs on my PC. So long story short because of my setup, I just move the mouse and click the game and my controller will play whatever game perfectly no matter if it's from steam or not and I do it all from the couch. (Since many games support the PS4 controller and the Dualsense has to emulate a PS4 controller to get the proper PlayStation icons). I have another tool called REWASD that I use for non steam games launched on other platforms (since I launch all my PC games from all platforms on GOG via integrations) that automatically makes my controller emulate either an Xbox controller, or a PS4 controller depending on what game I tell it to use it on. (I play mainly with my Dualsense controller). The right stick become a mouse and R2 becomes a left click. Which mean in desktop or wherever you are, if you hold the guide button (which is whatever home button the controller has, PlayStation button, Xbox button, whatever). Without Bluetooth I just scroll with my mouse which is right on my armrest, or if I'm in bed, I use the guide button chords from steam. In the case of Bluetooth, because my PC is next and to the left of my TV I have another USB extender with a Bluetooth at the end of it which goes behind the TV and is taped right under the bottom of the TV and it gives perfect range for Bluetooth. I connect my controller with whatever I feel like, Bluetooth or the cable. I use USB extenders for my mouse, keyboard, and controllers and I have them super neatly tied together and hidden so you can't trip on them or even see them. In my room I have my PC hooked up to my big 55 inch TV and I sit on a really big chair with big armrests and on the right armrest I have my mousepad on top a book. I have never had a monitor for any PC I've owned.
